E-commerce Shopping Cart

March 31st, 2006 by Crea7ive.com

Say Hello to E-Commerce

E-commerceIf wish to sell from your website you will need an online shop, but what exactly is an online store?
An e-commerce store is a data driven website where usually, there is a catalogue which allows customers to browse through your products and their details, such as description, colours availability, price and pictures, etc. This catalogue is controlled by a password protected control panel or administration area where the website owner or employees can access at anytime, anyhour to edit, add or delete any information on the site that will be automatically updated live after submitting the changes.

The advantages an online shop has over a bricks and mortar shop is that there is no need to rent a building to conduct your trading from, staff are not required for customers to make purchases and your customers can order goods from the comfort of their own home or office.

E-commerce solutions and packages come in many shapes and sizes depending on your requirements and budget. There is some thing to suit most business small and large. So first of all you need to decide if you want to take credit card payments. The answer is usually, YES!. Credit cards allow spontaneous purchasing, while checks or money orders give the customer time to change their mind about a purchase and probably forget about it.

Merchant Accounts : accept credit card payments online.

enterSome people say “I already take credit card payments on my physical store” but as many people ignore an e-commerce merchant account is a totally different story. There are many types of merchant accounts, some charge by the month, some charge a percentage or a fee. But what you need to know the most is that each merchant account provider uses different technologies and your e-commerce store has to be custom-programmed in order to work with each one of them; so choosing your merchant account provider is a very important step on your way to e-commerce. If you want a list of the best merchant account providers on the web contact us and we will provide you with the information for FREE.

A merchant account needs to be linked to an actual physical bank account, for the funds to be trasnferred there when payments are settled.

PayPal

Paypal is a popular option to receive payments online that was born with ebay.
A Paypal account is linked to an email account and then to a bank account where the money is deposited at the end of a transaction. Paypal can be a recommended solution for starters but we would not recommend to lack a regular Merchant Account. With a Paypal account your customers can pay for goods and services only if they have an account too.

The Process of selling online.
Usually they’re is a common process in an online sale:

  1. Customer browses your catalog of products and add / removes products to and from their virtual shopping cart.
  2. The customer proceeds to the checkout and confirm they wish to purchase the products selected.
  3. Customer registers or logs in if a returning customer.
  4. The customer submits credit card information and automatically (trough the integration with your merchant account) they are sent to the payment gateway for authorization. Communications between your website and the payment gateway are sometimes secured using SSL technology.
If authorized, the funds are captured in the customers account.
  5. Funds are transferred from the customers account to your merchant account. Payment is settled, process usually takes 24hs.
  6. Funds are transferred from your merchant account to your business account usually once a month depending on the arrangement with the payment gateway or merchant account provider.

Secure Certificates.

The communications between the customer and a website that employs a secure certificate are encrypted using industry standard 128-bit SSL (Secure Socket Layer) technology; this gives the customer confidence in the website. SSL certificates must be renewed every year.

SSL certificates serve two very important purposes:

  • They allow secure, encrypted communication between your website and the payment gateway.
  • They allow customer to verify you are who you say you are.

Fedex TrackingShipping your merchandise.

Largest courier companies offer their software to be integrated to e-commerce websites. This software is called API, and it allows an e-commerce system to produce tracking numbers and print ready to stick on a package labels with barcodes on it and postal value; and save the hassle of having to go to the post office and mail box by box every day. Integration of this kind of software requires custom programming and it is one of Crea7ive’s specialties.

Recommended for medium to high volume sellers that ship more than 5 packages per day. For more information on how we can help integrate Fedex, USPS, UPS, DHL or others to your e-commerce site, click here.

So how can we help you?

  1. We are experts in setting up entire e-commerce systems - no hassle, no research, no problems. Up and running in just a few days.
  2. We have done it so many times that the software is already built and the savings are passed on to you.
  3. We have different plans to make e-commerce affordable for everyone. See our e-commerce package . We know it is the most competitive without skimping on quality.

WHY TO SAY NO TO TEMPLATES

March 7th, 2006 by Crea7ive.com

Website templates can be very attractive and edgy; They are cheaper than having a custom professional website designed and come handy when starting up a new business. Then why saying no to such a juicy deal like this? Well, here are some of the reasons that will change your mind about it.

“…but just after placing your pictures and your logo you realize the template does not look so good anymore”

1) TUNE UP: Although the edgy designs and fancy 3D graphics look real nice on screen most of the times you need to replace them with your logo, and own pictures. This is no biggie… but just after placing your pictures and your logo you realize the template does not look so good anymore, in fact it looks poor and cheap.
So if you still care about having a professional website and do not want to mess up the site that will represent your company or yourself ; you should get professional help from a designer- see next reason why this is a bad idea too. With templates you are not provided with all the source files and resources needed; and getting a professional web designer to do a decent job can give you a tough time. But even if you have the files and some resources this is no guarantee you will not go from fancy looking template to cheap looking website.

“A web designer might spend more time tuning up a website than creating one from scratch.”

2) HIRING A PROFESSIONAL: You may think “well I already have a website designed - for which I paid less than $100.00, yay - so it should not be a great deal for a web designer.” Well, you are wrong. A web designer might spend more time tuning up a website than creating one from scratch. Since websites are created by different individuals with unique methods and techniques; it takes more work for a designer to tune up a website than to create a new one from scratch. This extra work is translated to you as extra hours=money. Tunning up a website is such a complicated task that tuning up a website can be more expensive than getting a custom website designed.

“Template companies try to keep their customers captive, so they don’t give out the complete source”

3) BAD APPAREANCE: Template companies try to keep their customers captive, so they don’t give out the complete source; this means you will not be able to adapt the whole appeareance of your site to what YOU need or want.
Not being able to do so means that visitors can easily identify your website as one of the popular templates that can be found on the internet, making you or your company lose credibity and look unprofessional.

“Your website not only looks unprofessional but is is built in an unprofessionally”

4) A NON ACHIEVER: After replacing template contents with YOURS - logo, images, text, etc - you realize your template does not look so good anymore. As a matter of fact, it looks cheap and poor, nor loads in a fashionable amount of time; the animations and graphics lost quality and you have spent a lot of time and money on something that did not and will not fulfill your needs.
Your website not only looks unprofessional but it is built unprofessionally. Since template companies do not give out the complete source files, it makes it very difficult, if not imposible, to make major changes.
Templates usually have a limited space to enter text and images, letters are too small, flash is hard to turn into dynamic unless you redo half of your site; and many other obstacles that turn a simple task into a nightmare when attempting to make changes.

“the costs for a website based on a template to obtain decent results can go so high that end up costing up to twice the value of a custom web designed site developed by a professional firm in the US

5) HIGH COST LOW QUALITY: Although templates can be found for very low prices, taking into account the facts previously mentioned; the costs for a website based on a template to obtain decent results can go so high that end up costing up to twice the value of a custom web designed site developed by a professional firm in the US .
By using a template to build your website; chances are you will not get near the product quality you were originally looking for, and will find yourself with a website that does not represent you or you company the way it was supposed to.
